REPRESENTATION OF THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY
The Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce, with some 36,000 membership, represents the full spectrum of business and industry in Addis Ababa. It is, therefore, in a position to speak authoritatively and independently for the whole business community in and around Addis Ababa and not just one sector of it. The Chamber's foremost interest is to enhance the ability of local manufacturers to produce goods and to facilitate, assist, and coordinate the activities of importers, exporters and service giving enterprises. These interests of the Chamber coincide with those of the Government.
As representative of the business community in Addis Ababa, the Chamber is in a unique position to play the role of an advisory to the Government, mainly on economic policy issues reflecting the interests and wishes of its members, particularly on issues such as tax policy, labour and investment codes and the country's overall economic policy.
MARKET STUDIES
Market studies pertain to the identification of current and future products available within the country for sale on the international market. This is done through assessment of the country's export supply situation. The types of information generated through the market studies pertain to volume available for export, prevailing prices, principal producers and exporters, etc.
It also involves the identification of specific possibilities for sales and gives an overview of the characteristics and requirements of target export markets and the major opportunities in them. It highlights sales prospects for local exportable products. Such a study contains information on general characteristics of those imports, consumption patterns, import rules and regulations, tariffs, marketing conditions and requirements, price levels, distribution channels, bilateral and multilateral trade agreements, etc.
